How to Replace WordPress Plugins with Optimized Code Snippets / WordPress

Every new WordPress installation can be improved with plugins. But too many plugins can make your site run much slower and feel surprisingly clunky.

Have good reason to install plugin but if you can replace a plugin with PHP code it’s usually easier. But How do you know which plugins you need versus which ones can be replaced??

Thankfully, there is a new site created for this situation called “You Might Not Need That WordPress Plugin”. It was a rather long name but it quickly got used up.

On the homepage you get a huge list of WordPress features with code snippets to replace existing plugins. You can keyword filter snippet or just browse everything at once. Because everything is on one page easily search through and copy/paste codes as you find them.

Website already available more than a dozen different passages helps you to extend WordPress without any plugin. These passages include custom post type, custom shortcode, 301 redirectand add your own custom JS/CSS files to the title.

Each code snippet has a button to automatically copy the code to your clipboard for easy transportation. You will also find a brief description of each code snippet along with links to the WordPress codebase for any major functionality.

This site is amazing and it is still a work in progress so there is room for new contributions.

If you find any code snippets that can replace popular WP plugins, you should tweet site owner Luke Liasi @lukeliasi. He’s open to all new suggestions and will update regularly making it ideal to be the ultimate resource to help WordPress users optimize their WP sites.
